OK – here’s why I went with “Macarthur Park” to advance:
1. How bad was the original version of “Macarthur Park?” So bad that a disco version was a substantial improvement. So bad that a Weird Al parody is nearly unlistenable.
2. As annoying as Fred Durst and his cohorts are, “Macarthur Park” has been annoying people for 35 years. (Besides, “Nookie” will be back next year as an auto-bid.)
3. “Nookie” is over two minutes shorter.
4. “Macarthur Park” won Dave Barry’s Bad Song Survey. Which ought to be worth something.
5. For crying out loud, this is a song about a guy comparing his lost love to a cake melting in the rain. “I did it all for the nookie” is a far less stupid line.
